Entries for the 31st Gosport Half Marathon are now open.
The race takes place on Sunday 20th November 2016 commencing at 10am. The venue is Bay House School, 18 Gomer Lane, Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire PO12 2QP. (Please note that there is no parking here)
Off-road parking is available in Browndown Road; nearest postcode PO13 9UG
Race entries tend to be evenly split between Club and non-Club Runners, so there is a good mix of abilities that ensures the race feels busy but rarely crowded.
The 2015 Winning man was Joe Corbett (Chichester Runners & AC) in a time of 1:11:09 on this new course. The winning lady was Sarah Hill (Farnham Runners) in a time of 1:20:29.
The race is a venue for the Hampshire Road Race League and unfortunately is not suitable for wheelchair athletes.
There is chip timing.
The new Course introduced in 2014 will be used again although there may be slight adjustments made. The route starts and finishes at Browndown Rd, then has two laps which go all the way along the Seafront at Lee-on-the-Solent.
The outward leg is mainly run on cycle-paths and pavement, the return leg goes along the Esplanade. The course is flat save for two short ramps along the Esplanade.

Course. Preparations for this year's race are going well. The course will be the same as last year's.
Water Pouches. We will be using the same pouches as last year. As pouches are quite new a few people had not encountered them before and had difficulty using them.
Water stations should be handing them out ready-opened. A short video can be viewed here giving some hints on how to use them:

Children's Fun Run
Whilst the main event is underway, a ‘Fun Run’ will take place. This is a non-competitive run for children under the age of 12.
The Fun Run takes place commencing at 10.20am and covers an approximate distance of 1.2K If your child wants you to run with them, that is ok. The entry cost is £2.00. Payment and registration for the Fun Run, has to be made on the day of the race.
The entry form will be available for download here soon:
All finishers (adults and children) will receive a medal and Goodie Bag.
The use of MP3 Players and similar devices is not permitted whilst running.
In the event of severe weather or unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the race organisers, we reserve the right to cancel the race. If this decision is made, no refund of race entry fee will be made, as most of the costs are incurred before the start of the race.
We really do appreciate runners giving a few minutes of their time after the race to send us their comments. It is invaluable information for the race committee. A good place to post a comment is on the Runner’s World website.
Guidance on how to prepare for an endurance event is available on the www.runnersmedicalresource.com website with regularly updated advice from the runbritain Medical Advisory Group.
